In 2019, the U.K. and Devolved Governments committed to an ambitious target to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Landowners, commercial estate and building owners are thinking now about how to align with carbon neutrality and beyond to net zero. In particular where these decisions will help to appreciate and retain value in land investments.
Enabling a net zero future means the need to look-ahead now to develop strategies and look for opportunities. Examples are self-generation of energy, renewables and being smart about how ‘difficult’ land (e.g. contaminated land) is used.
There are many challenges ahead for developers and local authorities in land development, but solutions can be found through partnerships, collaboration, innovation and thinking/acting differently about how your land assets can align with the agenda.
