Mabbett delivers a 54% reduction in our carbon footprint
14th March 2022
As a signatory to the Pledge to Net Zero, Mabbett has made a commitment to deliver a greenhouse gas emissions target in line with a ‘well below 2°C’ climate change scenario – covering buildings and travel as a minimum. Mabbett’s target includes a commitment to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions (inclusive of business travel and staff commuting) by 27.5% by 2030, from a baseline year of 2019.
Mabbett’s latest carbon footprint for FY 2020/21 is a total of 51 tCO2e, this represents a total reduction of 54% from our baseline figure of 112 tCO2e. Some comments with regards to this latest carbon footprint are as follows:
- Reduction in emissions from business travel as a result of COVID-19 travel restrictions, most notably a significant decrease in air miles travelled.
- Significant reduction of emissions from staff commuting due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, temporary staff furlough and home working, supported by the Mabbett Working From Home Policy.
- 40% reduction in estimated emissions from use of grid electricity, in part due to fewer staff in our offices using equipment, however gas heating remained stagnant as buildings were still heated for the limited numbers working in the offices.
Mabbett considers this significant reported carbon footprint reduction to be an outlier reduction, driven mainly by response to the pandemic. We will continue to seek additional efficiencies and reductions as social distancing restrictions ease. We will continue to report our emissions publicly and seek to reduce our total carbon footprint in line with our Pledge to Net Zero commitment.
