During planning permission for a residential development, it’s common that your planning authority will request a Noise Impact Assessment. These types of assessments determine whether a site is suitable for residential development and can identify noise mitigation measures to ensure satisfactory internal and external sound levels can be achieved, in order to secure planning permission.
Noise assessments for residential planning applications are generally formed under the guidance within British Standard 8233:2014: Sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings.
In addition, following the withdrawal of PPG24 in 2011, the introduction of the Professional Planning Guidance (ProPG) in 2017 provides advice for Local Planning Authorities, developers and their respective advisors and compliments government planning, noise policy and guidance.
